Who Qualifies for VA Loans?

VA home loans are available to veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard, Reserves, and eligible surviving spouses.

Veterans

  • 90 consecutive days of active service during wartime
  • 181 days of active service during peacetime
  • 6 years in National Guard or Reserves
  • Discharged under conditions other than dishonorable

Active Duty

  • Served at least 90 continuous days
  • Currently on active duty
  • Received honorable discharge
  • Certificate of Eligibility from VA

Surviving Spouses

  • Spouse died in service or from service-connected disability
  • Receiving DIC benefits
  • Not remarried (with exceptions)
